EGO SUM AMICUS HUMANIS GENERIS
We Buy, We Play, We Complain, We Play Again.. With The gaming industry reaching an unprecedented revenue level and continued expected growth it is clear that gaming is not just about "rotting your brain" as our parents had told us. The gaming industry is exactly that, an industry, built on developing games for kids and adults alike in order to generate capital to make more games to make more capital. You now get hyped by the new game because the companies can afford to generate HYPE, more money to advertise allows for them to reach a larger audience. Competition is good for the standard gamer right? WRONG!! The industry has become a standard of post-released access Hype based games that get you to buy in early with some nice features and graphics! The over-promise and under-deliver effect has enveloped the gaming industry! Games that have been in Alpha for ages and ages; collecting in game purchases from the sadly addicted to low quality under developed games that will never get to reach their potential. The reason for this commonly is that developers start out with great concepts and ideas, but they do a cost-profit analysis of further development of the game and realize that they will not gain more sales by further developing the game. The truth is they just tack on some in game purchase methods and then also add features that are more aesthetic and easy to add. This way the player feels like they are getting the updates. We all know a game that fits into this description. UPDATE HYPE!!! Big games always come out with huge updates and an even bigger HYPE BUS! The truth is the hype almost always out-weighs the update. Streamers hop on the game before the game is even suppose to be up and really hype them up. Whether they benefit from the hype or not, they help to make it. Then all the Twitch crackheads (myself included) look into the game or even buy it same time to be part of the hype. Game Purchases I have personally bought many games based on Hype and all the trailers and development. The truth is I play only a few games now, and some of them are completely free (with in-game purchases available of course). So my Steam library is packed full of games I haven't touched in ages. In Conclusion There will always be great games out there to take advantage of and enjoy with your friends. When purchasing a new game try to always research and avoid getting on the hype bus. The "Hype Bus" is a wonderful place to be, sort of like a strip club, until you leave... and then you just feel dirty and realize how much money you just wasted. GAME ON MY FRIENDS!! -iROC

2/26/2017 iROC - I believe the fact that this game being released on XBOX, PLAYSTATION and PC is proof that the end of the world as we know it is comingWe have all bought games that did not meet our expectations, however in recent years it has become a normal thing. The gaming industry is now estimated to be worth over 80 billion dollars in 2017 a 20 billion dollar increase from 2012, 2007 it was only 9 billion dollars. Gaming is no longer taboo as people have obtained celebrity status simply by playing games through twitch and youtube. People spend a lot more time in front of a screen than they would have 20 years ago, this increases revenue and with the advent of DLCs has flooded the market with some video games that are out for your money. |
