The Day the earth stood still
iROC's review of FOR HONOR

Picture
2/26/2017 iROC - I believe the fact that this game being released on XBOX, PLAYSTATION and PC is proof that the end of the world as we know it is coming
We have all bought games that did not meet our expectations, however in recent years it has become a normal thing. The gaming industry is now estimated to be worth over 80 billion dollars in 2017 a 20 billion dollar increase from 2012, 2007 it was only 9 billion dollars. Gaming is no longer taboo as people have obtained celebrity status simply by playing games through twitch and youtube. People spend a lot more time in front of a screen than they would have 20 years ago, this increases revenue and with the advent of DLCs has flooded the market with some video games that are out for your money.

We can recognize the cheap pop we get from a game we love, or think we love, the last game I think has had a progressive development is Half-Life. With its repackaged spin offs it has standed the test of time in such a manner we may never see an equal. The developers and the community shine through a game like Half life and they add value for the next generation, honorable intent to further the joy of gaming.

Here are three reasons why in my opinion FOR HONOR is failing us:

UPNP: When FOR HONOR was released, Ubisoft actually saw a drop in stock prices, this happened with Assassin's creed as well. FOR HONOR is a precision fighting game but the developers decided that UPNP, or advance UPNP as they call it, was a good idea. This ofcourse is cheaper than dedicated servers. Please see below link for explanation to what UPNP is. Going cheap has us all concerned as during the closed and open beta we saw people teleporting because of losing connection to the host. Some people have even found a way to capitalize on this by using a switch, though I have yet to see blatant use by any of my opponents.

Exposure: The world knows that this game, which ended up being released for $60 standard, did not live up to the hype. Three different platforms gives them access to over 20 million players, though it seems inevitable, I have yet to find definitive information on the community size dropping. This is not a triple A game, this is a trollfest and you will need to have good internet to enjoy the online play.

No Honor: They named the game FOR HONOR, which does not mean a thing in the campaign and certainly not in the Multiplayer. Even the AI will 2v1 or 3v1 you without giving a crap about HONOR, the game does not seem to be able to handle these situations either. To name a game this seems like Trolling, then to make it UPNP seems doubly trolling. All this advertising came out, it was a good sign that this game would not deliver, do not believe the hype bro. We had to know this game would fall on its face, soon to be dead as youtubers and twitch players have started to abandon it.

Does it have a chance?
Do not get me wrong, this game feels good, you can outsmart an opponent or project your will upon them. A similar fighter game you compare this to is EA FIGHT NIGHT, you can block, parry and deflect your opponents strikes by anticipating their movements. the game when it works is truly a testament to PVP and is more skill based than pay to play when in 1v1 or 2v2 Brawl.

The different game modes other than Brawl (2v2) and Duel (1v1) allow armor and power ups to play a factor. When you fight against a well armed player running seems to be a good option. These game changing power ups and Revenge mode adds to the fun, but the connection issues makes these game modes a wash if you do not have stellar internet. The game feels sporty and the rules are straight forward but it is hard to compete when the game lags on you. I have seen lag on every dominion and elimination match I have played.
So you get home, have time to sit and play a fun game? If you are like me, time is precious and the time from booting FOR HONOR to getting into a match is ridiculous. If you are trying to play with friends, you will need to work out who is inviting everyone as most of the time in my experience we cannot connect to the Group or get kicked during the match starting if the wrong person is selected as the leader.

So say it is just you, you want to do a 1v1 DUEL vs Player, from booting up the game to actually playing a match it is about 7 minutes, if you are good and wreck the player you are dueling in 1v1 you can expect the game will be over in less than 3 minutes. Expect to play about 30% of the time you are online, this type of gaming is quite boring and toxic to a community that is growing in age and reducing the time they have to enjoy their video games. The quick match option is no faster than selecting your mode, compared to Rocket League (a competitive vehicle soccer game) For Honor takes a lot of time of play time to actually play a short period of that time.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN spent over 30 million dollars on advertising and had less than 5 minutes of Batman versus Superman. What happened to super mario brothers? I do not blame FOR HONOR for their failures, we can look at FOR HONOR as a perfect example of the product we get in the bloated gaming industry.
We should be the ones telling the Devs a game is good and not the other way around. Vote with your dollar and your voice will be heard.

I am sorry I purchased this game, but i demand it to be better!!

I do not recommend purchasing this game, but i am going to go play it once I send this email.
